About the Role

As a Senior Consultant, you will be involved in project acquisitions and implementation. This includes leading business development (market positioning, proposal writing, coordinating bids) and the implementation of policy research (e.g., evaluations, impact assessments, reviews), technical assistance projects, market studies, as well as to monitoring, evaluation and learning assignments (MEL). Notably, you will be involved in projects connected to sustainable and inclusive growth, entrepreneurship (incl. social entrepreneurship), SME support, as well as business enabling environment in developing countries.
Major tasks include:

Provide strategic support to our private sector development and entrepreneurship team in business development and project implementation.

Undertake targeted business development and build relationships with clients to advance the company's profile and ability to help clients.

Ensure smooth delivery of Impact and Evaluation contracts, working closely with other project members to ensure that the contract is delivered successfully.

Lead acquisitions and the development of methodologies related to MEL, evaluations, impact studies and independent reviews related to entrepreneurship and private sector development.

Liaise with key partners and experts to deliver our strategic reviews and advisory support to clients.

Manage and deliver independent evaluations, impact and research studies.

Lead/contribute to high quality written inputs to reports, presentations, and other research and consultancy outputs.

Requirements

Ideally based in Rotterdam, Netherlands (We are open to European based candidates who can ensure frequent presence in our Rotterdam office)

Master’s degree in development studies, research methods, quantitative or qualitative analysis, economics, or relevant field is required.

Minimum 8 years of experience in MEL /evaluation studies with a focus on private sector development.

Experience in managing projects with a value of at least EUR 300,000

Strong business development and project acquisition skills with proven experience winning work for international donors and/or private foundations.

Experience with best practices in environmentally-sensitive, gender-responsive, and/or youth-focused development approaches is preferred. Experience with PSD in the agri-sector is a plus.

Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods, survey design and implementation, and complex analysis is required.

Financial acumen and client focus.

Strong management skills and ability to train and develop junior staff.

Experience in working in African countries is essential.

Experience and understanding of private sector development and entrepreneurship is necessary.

Fluency in English required. High level of Dutch is an advantage.
